It’s getting tougher and tougher to get your business’s organic content seen on Facebook.
In fact, the latest algorithm change said Facebook is prioritising content from family and friends over content from business pages.
However, using Stories is a clever, organic way for your business to claw back some of that attention.
Facebook Stories has 150 million active daily users and Instagram Stories has 300m active daily users.
This figure is growing, and it’s not surprising because Facebook Stories has a prime location when you view content in the Facebook app. It’s at the top of the page.
Followers and friends also get notifications that your business has updated its story, which means more are likely to click into it to take a look at what you’ve added.
Facebook has also added custom links to Stories so you can link to your website and drive more traffic to it.
It’s now easy to cross-post Stories between Instagram and Facebook, so you spend less time uploading content.
There’s another big plus. While the use of Stories by businesses is growing, it’s still at a relatively early stage which means you can stand out from your competitors.
What do I need to do?
You need an active Facebook business page and you must be the admin or editor.
Here’s how to add a story:
- Access your Facebook page
- Scroll down and look for “Add to story”
- Click on that button or panel.
- Create your story, upload a photo or upload a video.
- Click the “Add to Story” button again.
You can share content from your computer, the Facebook app, Messenger, and Facebook Lite.
If you can’t see your ‘add to story’ button, or if it freezes when you try to add, you may have to remove your page from Business Manager.
Log in and find the sidebar which contains Ads Manager, Power Editor, Business Settings, Add New, Claim Asset, and Request Access.
Hover over Business Settings and click Pages to access a list of pages attached to the account.
Select the page you want to remove, then click remove twice.
You won’t be able to access your page through Business Manager. You will still be able to administrate it normally on Facebook, though.
If you only have one page, you will need to create a dummy second page to do this and make it the primary page.
What should I share in Stories?
Share the sort of content which is going to engage your ideal customers – entertain them, educate them, or make them think.
Stories is a visual medium so keep any text short and sweet.
Your Stories can include videos and photos, and like Instagram’s Stories they are available to view for 24 hours.
There is also a Stories archive which you can see, but your readers cannot.
You can use Facebook videos or pre-recorded videos which can be uploaded from your computer.
You can record in Normal, Video, Boomerang, and Live.
How can I cross-post from Instagram?
If you have an Instagram business account, you can share your Insta Stories to Facebook simply.
Click on the settings cog on your profile, then click ‘Story Settings’. Switch on the ‘Share Your Story to Facebook’ toggle.
It’s that easy! You can also set the toggle to share every future story to Facebook.
